“We didn’t like each other.”

“Oo, masungit siya no’n.

Masungit siya sa akin.”

Those are the words spoken in the first few minutes of YES! Magazine’s conversation with Bianca Umali—the one who speaks the first line—and Miguel Tanfelix.

One of the most beloved love teams of their generation, the Bianca and Miguel tandem, usually called by their uni-name BiGuel, did not begin with immediate attraction or even fondness. But as the years passed, the two began to develop a real friendship that has propelled them to where they are now in the combative world of showbiz love teams.

THE BEGINNING

Bianca, 18, was introduced to working in front of a camera when she was still a toddler. That was when she started doing print and TV commercials. By the time she was a kid, she had done commercials for brands of diaper, clothing, ice cream, and cologne. In 2009, at the age of 9, she got her first hosting job in the GMA children’s show Tropang Potchi. That same year, she had a cameo role in the TV series Darna and a minor role in the TV series Kaya Kong Abutin ang Langit. Two years later, in 2011, she signed a management contract with GMA Artist Center, the talent management arm of the GMA Network.

Miguel, 19, started his career in show business at five years old, when he joined the reality-TV talent show StarStruck Kids (2004) and came out as First Prince, or first runner-up. He then bagged supporting roles in many of GMA’s TV shows, including Mulawin (2004), Majika (2006), and Fantastic Man (2007).
