THE STAR OF DISNEY’S LATEST LIVE-ACTION REMAKE HAS BEEN MAKING WAVES IN HOLLYWOOD – AND AROUND THE WORLD
Meet the new MULAN

You might not know the name Liu Yifei yet – but believe us when we say you soon will. The 32-year-old actress is taking on the lead role in Disney’s latest live-action remake, Mulan, and is already a huge star in her own right.

The Chinese-American actress, singer, and model – also known as Crystal Liu – is a household name in many countries, boasting 65.6 million followers on Weibo, China’s leading social media platform. She’s also the face of Emporio Armani’s autumn/winter 19/20 campaign in the Asia-Pacific, and has starred in countless films and TV shows since she began acting more than 20 years ago.

But the star’s profile is set to rise to new heights when the reboot of the 1998 Disney classic reaches the big screen. Liu – known to her fans as ‘Fairy Sister’ – plays Hua Mulan, a teenage girl who pretends to be a boy to join the army and defend her kingdom from Northern invaders.

“I got a call asking me if I wanted to audition,” Liu told fellow actress Awkwafina during a chat for Interview magazine. “I asked myself, ‘What can I bring to the story?’ I needed to know that I could bring something unique. Ultimately, I was confident enough that I could surprise them.”
