Every three hours, a woman is murdered in South Africa. During lockdown, there’s been a surge of gender-based violence cases reported to the police. With thousands of women losing their lives at their partners’ hands, there hasn’t been a more crucial time to highlight the danger of Dikeledi (Reshoketswe Kekana) staying in her toxic relationship with Hammer (Abraham Abe Pupunyane). Theirs is a classic tale of abusive romance: he beats her, she leaves him, but he finds her and manipulates her into giving him another chance because he promises to be a better man, explains Abraham. “Dikeledi is always under the impression that Hammer is going to change.”
