Sons and lovers

Sons and lovers
2019 was a year of psychotic boyfriends, secret sons and a mistress who just wouldn’t quit.

Sanil Maharaj (Jack Devnarain) launched January on a ghoulish note by stealing Nganono Bhengu’s (Xolani Mfeka) burnt corpse and using it to blackmail and manipulate Nganono’s killer Phunyuka (Mduduzi Nombela) and to frame Nganono’s father Ngcolosi (Tony Kgoroge) for Nganono’s murder – leading to his public arrest at Nganono’s funeral. Maharaj was a grave-robber by night and a Romeo by day as he romanced and manipulated Nirupa (Jailoshini Naidoo). It wasn’t until Phunyuka had had enough and confessed to the murder in February, that Maharaj’s grip was loosened, but Maharaj would return to strike at the Bhengus again in October. And after Maharaj’s conspirator Shukela (Mondli Makhoba) kidnapped Zithulele Bhengu (Raphael Griffiths) in mid December, Maharaj murdered Shukela by slitting his throat and sent the Bhengus Zithu’s chopped-off toe.
