Party of problems
’90s family drama Party Of Five is given a fresh new look as the Acosta family find stability in their parents’ absence.
CRAIG FALCK

Remember the Salinger siblings from drama series Party Of Five (1994-2000), who were forced to grow up overnight and take over the family restaurant after their parents died in a car crash? That premise is being revisited in a single-season reboot of the same name, but it’s got a 2020 twist, says Brandon Larracuente (Jeff in drama 13 Reasons Why, 2017now). He plays eldest sibling Emilio in the drama and “rather than the parents dying, the writers have used something that terrifies immigrants far worse than death: the United States Immigration And Customs Enforcement (ICE)”. At the start of Party Of Five 2020, wannabe musician Emilio and his brothers and sisters watch as their restaurant-owning parents are handcuffed and hauled off without information. And just like that, the Salingers become the Acostas.
