Coming-of-age stories have the same premise: a young adult gets life lessons. It’s somewhat the tone
of new tearjerker drama Council Of Dads, but the grown-ups are learning too. It’s based on the 2010 biographical novel of the same name by Bruce Feller, who formed a real council of dads. “It was the most desperate week of my life,” explains the 55-year-old author of when he had the idea. “I had a 21cm cancerous tumour in my left femur. I instantly worried about my three-year-old twin daughters and what life may be like for them. Would they wonder who I was? Would they wonder what I thought? Would they yearn for my approval, my love, my voice?” The show is different though, because the Bruce character – Scott (Tom Everett Scott, Mr Down in 13 Reasons Why, 2017-2018) – dies.
