If you bumped into Gabriel Ndlovu (Bohang Moeko) at a hardware store in Vosloorus, east of Joburg with a power tool in one hand and braided rope in the other, you’d never think that he’s about to torture one of his adoptive mother Mary’s (Nthati Moshesh) victims. However, as much as Gabriel pulls off the corporate look, he kills people as gangster Mary’s protégé. “Gabriel regards himself as a crisis fixer. He cleans up whatever mess Mary lands in and he protects her at whatever cost,” explains Bohang.
While Gabriel is good at his job and he’s managed to steer clear of the cops, he’s been contemplating leaving the gang world for some time. But Mary always shuts him down and convinces him to stay. “Gabriel is in a tug-of-war with himself and his conscience. He is tired of living on the wrong side of the law. He wants out,” says Bohang, whose character has had enough this fortnight and vanishes without a trace. Will Gabriel carry out with his plan to escape Mary’s grip, or will he sheepishly return home and continue being his mother’s right-hand man and puppet?
