Y&R: THE ABBOTTS SAY GOOD-BYE TO DINA
Jack can sense that Dina is not doing well,” says Peter Bergman (Jack).

Dina’s life is winding down, and her family is by her side at the end. “Jack can sense that Dina is not doing well,” says Peter Bergman (Jack). “He sees her all day, every day, and he’s convinced that she’s slipping away. Jack still has some issues with her. Yes, he loves her but now he realizes that he can’t address those issues anymore because she’s lost to another world. That opportunity is gone, so he needs to be the head of the family right now and that’s what he’s going to do.”

Still, Jack works against the clock to find the necklace Dina once owned and was featured in the recently discovered home movie of her and John as a young couple. “Dina went to great lengths to get Jack to watch this footage, so he and his sisters looked at this movie and tried to figure out what she’s wanting to tell them,” notes Bergman. “They realize that it’s the necklace and Jack is chasing it down.”

Why is this mission so important to Jack? “He keeps saying that he hopes the necklace will give Dina a moment of peace, but I think that on a selfish level, Jack is hoping that giving it to her will trigger something in Dina’s brain and bring her back to him, even if it’s just long enough to have that good-bye chat,” Bergman explains. “It’s not just, ‘I want to make my Mommy happy,’ but more, ‘Maybe there are some answers to why we three kids are so unlucky in love?’ ”
