Cynthia, 54, plays Gwendolyn, Governor Wilburn’s press secretary, and Ratched’s love interest in the psychological series, which is written and directed by former Glee director Ryan Murphy. She says she enjoyed playing a character who brings a “ray of light”.
“My character in Ratched was a departure for me because she is a beam of light in the show. Lots of people are dealing with demons, contradictions, trauma and impulses they’re trying to control, but it was really interesting to me to be a person who is this ray of light. She pulls Mildred [played by Sarah Paulson] and says, ‘There is a wonderful life for you, if you can only see it.’ It’s been wonderful,” Cynthia tells OK!.
Cynthia, who’s most recognisable for playing Miranda Hobbes in Sex And The City between 1998 and 2004, has spent most of 2020 at her home in Montauk, New York with her wife of eight years Christine Marinoni, 53, and their children. The couple have a son, nine-year-old Max, together and also raise Cynthia’s two children, Samuel, 23, and Charles, 17, from a previous relationship. Cynthia reveals there’s been a lot of baking and telly viewing during lockdown.
