How do you define a holistic lifestyle?
“A lifestyle, which incorporates the following elements – mental, physical, emotional and spiritual. A harmony, which is achieved through nutrition, sleep, stress management, and exercise… combining ancient wisdom with modern day medicine.”
You’re an auteur of many columns on wellness, which is some of your favorite topics to explore?
“Mainly, sugar as increased blood sugar and the insulin surge that follows is a cause for most illnesses. From diabetes to PCOS to heart diseases, all of them stem from inflammation caused by an increase in sugar and insulin levels. This refers to sugar in any form... even fruit juice, which most people believe is great for their health, but that is very far from the truth. The same goes for jaggery, honey, maple syrup, agave, etc. And, ‘organic’ does not nullify the ill-effects of sugar. One doesn’t need to cut sugar off completely but one, definitely, needs to eliminate liquid sugars – such as in alcohol. Gut health is also of parament importance – if your gut is weak, the disease will follow. I follow a protocol of ‘elimination’ and ‘challenge’ to make the gut strong.”
