OFT LEFT UNTOUCHED DUE TO THEIR INACCESSIBILITY BUT WORSHIPPED IN ABUNDANCE BY NATURE, AUTHOR AND TRAVEL WRITER ANAND KAPOOR SUGGESTS THREE LESS-TRAVELLED DESTINATIONS FOR THE JADED TRAVELLER
Every summer it becomes a struggle to figure out where new to go. We, inevitably, spend a month in the UK as we have a second home there and it’s “home,” so it’s comfortable and familiar. However, it’s exactly that: A “home,” so it’s never a true holiday. More like a staycation. Thus, we are always on the lookout for new locations and experiences. As with anyone, we end up returning to some places either due to ease or for love. Italy has always drawn me to it but, at the same time, Thailand is incredibly convenient for the traveler from India. The only other country that is easier to reach is perhaps the UAE, but peak summer is not really a time to go and experience-wise it’s very much confined to your resort.
Writing about new destinations is always a double-edged sword. The more the destination gets written about the more popular it gets and, thus, there is a real danger of it losing the very thing that made it different and unique. So, the idea of traveling for me is an experiential one – an escape from the ordinary and an openness to new experiences. So, grudgingly and, in the vein of sharing and openness, here are three destinations that are relatively undiscovered and offer something special to the jaded traveler. So, before too many people read this, go book your trip to these relatively undiscovered locations.
The closest most people have got to Fiji is Disney’s Moana. However, the country unequivocally lives up to the fantasy.
