Noted actor Jimmy Shergill announced the first Jio Filmfare Awards Punjabi 2017 at a press conference in the city

After honouring excellence in cinema in the Hindi, South (Tamil, Telugu, Malyalam and Kannada), Marathi and Bengali film industries, and also venerating short films this year, Filmfare has now debuted into the world of Punjabi cinema. To announce the first Jio Filmfare Awards Punjabi 2017, a press conference was held in the city on March 15, 2017.

Punjabi superstar and prominent Hindi actor, Jimmy Shergill, was the guest of honour. Present with Jimmy at the dais was Filmfare editor Jitesh Pillaai accompanied by TPS Walia (State Head - Punjab, Reliance Jio Infocom). Jimmy, looking his fittest best, was all praise for Filmfare and said, “I’m happy Punjabi films are getting due recognition.”

Editor Jitesh Pillaai seconded his thoughts and added, “Punjabi cinema has truly come of age and cut across geographical barriers.” Mr TPS Walia of Reliance Jio Infocom too shared his enthusiasm on the new collaboration saying, “The Jio Filmfare Awards Punjab 2017 is an attempt to showcase cinematic excellence from the vibrant state in a variety of digital ways. Jio is bringing transformational changes in India’s digital service space to enable a Digital Life for 1.2 billion Indians.”
