At a time when many of us are craving a less connected lifestyle, one area is attempting to plug us back in.

Anyone plugged into the beauty scene will have noted the dawning of a new trend. Walk around any well respected beauty hall these days not only reveals the expected treasure troves of make-up, skincare potions and elixirs, but also growing selections of rechargeable devices to pamper and treat the skin. A new beauty age is upon us and it’s connected.

Take the UFO. Ringed in attractive pastel hues with golden bases, these space-inspired orbs are from the brand Foreo hailing from Sweden, and promise to supercharge your face mask experience. Insert one of the brand’s pre-packaged single mask formulations (sold separately in packs of seven) into the device and begin the application. Turn it off 90 seconds later when the programme completes. That’s it, facial restoration in under two minutes. A matching app is downloadable and includes packages that send beams of light through the UFO to your face, with green to brighten and orange to freshen the skin. Talika, the boutique brand that pioneered eyelash treatments now offers something in a similar vein through its Dupont 1948. This ‘complete rejuvenation’ programme is said to use research from Aerospace and bathes the skin in light to reduce redness, wrinkles and dark spots.
