Skill Development Is Crucial
The Observer of Management Education|December 2017

Education is important but it does not guarantee a job in our chosen field. Thus, colleges, and even schools, must reconsider the efficacy of existing pedagogic methods and modify them to realign the focus from a theory-heavy teaching system to a more practical and technology-based approach

Skill Development Is Crucial

Albert Einstein famously said, “I have no special talents… I am only passionately curious.” While the education system does involve a test of memory, skill-based training equips you with the analytical mindset required when you enter the workforce.

Andrew Lopes, a Virar resident who pos-sesses down-to-earth personality and a kind heart, is known in his locality as a social activist. He extends his helping hand to needy in his region whenever the situation demands. The avid lover of music and sports, Mr Lopes neither holds any academic degree nor any diploma but he is a well-known personality in the area for his coaching classes on the subject of Accounts and his mind boggling skill sets in the field of carpentry.

59-year-old Mr Lopes says, ‘’I neither possess any degree nor any diploma. It was unfortunate that I had to leave my study in the middle of my college due to poor financial condition. I had strong desire to become a commerce graduate then but situation did not permit me. Though, I could not complete my studies, I had confidence in me that my favourite subject ‘Accounts’ would help me to earn my bread and butter one day.’’

‘’Since I did not have any degree in my had, I had no option other than embracing my father’s profession of carpentry. I had passion for this profession while studying in college which I gradually developed to make myself a skilled carpenter to support my family. Thanks to my father for teaching me carpentry when I was a school going student,’’ he utters with gratitude.
