Deciding on which B-school to join is a tough one.
Rinky Marwaha

It is a factor that has wide-scale implications. In a way, it directly or indirectly influences the professional realms of a student. If a candidates enrolls for a particular management school, his professional life from then on will be in the purview of what that given institute will instill in him or her. This is the core of how the given student will perform in the professional spheres of work. Thus, the role of placements in the selection of the b-school is hugely important. If the institute is famous for getting good placements for its candidates, it helps matters. The students are reassured that they will have a job in hand when they graduate out of the educational edifice. They need not fear, they need not have any apprehension. All that remains for them to do is to study well and score good grades in their class. The rest is for the institute to manage on its end. At the end of the day, the student will be one happy person since he or she will have a job to call their own. This was the reason, to start with, that the given candidate has enrolled himself for that particular b-school.

Placements are not easy to come by, and certainly not in the present economic climes

The problematic part in this whole domain is that it is not a simple matter to attract good employers to an institute. For this to happen, the credentials of the b-school should be impeccable. The institute should be well-known and have a good standing of its own. In the arena of management education, it needs to have made a mark or carved out a position for itself. This does not happen simply. It does not happen overnight. For an institute to have a good reputation, it needs to have certain basics in place. It needs to have good faculty that is known to impart education of a certain standard. It needs to have students that have proved themselves in the past and are all geared up to prove themselves in the future as well. It needs to have a base in the job market that the graduates or the postgraduates coming out of its haloed halls will have a certain level of expertise in their fields and will be a positive influence in the companies and organizations they join. Companies that come for absorbing students into their midst are not fools. They have the knowledge about the b-school, the level of candidates it has produced in the past, and the likely level of candidates it is producing in the present. Thus, it is not possible to pull wool over their eyes. In any case, within the next few months the candidates that become new employees for them will be scored. And then the reputation of the b-school they come from will be given a stamp. It will be one of excellence if the new workers prove of good mettle. And the reputation of the b-school will go down the drain if that does not happen.
