Changing Skills In Globalized World

“Good management is the art of making problems so interesting and their solutions so constructive that everyone wants to get to work and deal with them.” - Paul Hawkens

Whether you work for a multinational or government organization the successful managers possess a similar set of skills. It is food giant Pizza hut or State Bank of India, the biggest bank in India. It doesn’t matter whether the managers are handling customer service, information technology, finance there are certain skills, knowledge and attributes which are essential requirements for performing the role well. A manager wears many hats. Not only is a manager a team leader, but he or she is also a planner, organizer, cheerleader, coach, problem solver, and decision maker — all rolled into one. And these are just a few of the managers roles.

Dr R. Gopal, Director, Dean and the Head of the Department of the Department of Business Management, Dr. D. Y. Patil University, says, “In the last few years, managerial skills have undergone a major change. Today, a good manager is not only one who can ensure the smooth functioning of an organisation, but one who can also perceive challenges and use their critical thinking skills to solve long-term problems. Further, with globalisation blurring the geographical location of businesses, a manager today needs to glide across different time zones, continents and countries and feel at home with the world.”

The key management skills

When we talk about managerial skills, we talk about skills of a manager to maintain high efficiency in the way how his or her employees complete their everyday working tasks. Because of that, managers will need skills that will help them to manage people and technology to ensure an effective and efficient realization of their working tasks.
