Fight Away Colds This Spring With Citrus Fruits!

Spring is the perfect time of year to enjoy the bright yellows, pinks, oranges and greens that offer vibrant colors to our plates and interesting tastes to our palates. All those bright colors signal the presences of flavonoids, which have a positive effect on cardiovascular health.

Grapefruits, oranges, lemons and limes are a potent source of minerals and antioxidants that help keep our immune systems strong during the colder months when we’re more susceptible to getting sick. They stimulate the liver – which helps our detoxification pathways – and are cleansing to our internal digestive tract. On top of that, eating the whole fruit (not just the juice) packs a powerful dose of fiber that keeps us feeling fuller for longer, and “keeps things moving” to help us eliminate waste on a regular schedule.
