Singareni Collieries Co Ltd would supply the entire coal requirement and thereby replacing imports for Tangedco’s 3 units of 2400 MW consisting of North Chennai Thermal Power Station Stage-III (1 x 800 MW) and Uppur Super Critical Thermal Power Project (2 x 800 MW), it has been decided at the recently held meeting of Standing Linkage Committee of the coal ministry.
Tangedco is one of the highest importers of coal among state utilities.
Burdened with excess unsold coal, both Mahanadi Coalfields (MCL) of Coal India and SCCL have been competing against each other for meeting the complete coal requirement of these units, Coal Insights had earlier reported.
“In view of the discussions, SLC recommended for grant of entire coal linkage for 50 percent of the installed capacity of the 3 units of 2400 MW of Tangedco and Uppur Super Critical project (2 x 80O MW) under SHAKTI Policy, 2017 from SCCL. It was also recommended to grant Bridge Linkage for Ennore TPS expansion project (660 MW), Udangudi TPS Stage-l (2 x 660 MW) and Ennore SEZ Supercriticai TPS (2 x 660 MW) of Tangedco from SCCL,” the committee decided on July 27.
The committee also recommended that meeting the future coal requirement of Tangendco from Naini coal mine may be worked out by SCCL & the utility.
