The month made a stormy start with farmers across India protesting dismal agricultural policies and inadequate prices. Roads were bathed in cans of milk and markets reeled under soaring vegetable prices. Nevertheless, have we been mindful of the basics? Have we followed the standard practices of farming that yields good crop at a lower price? Are the farmers aware of the ills of overusing fertilisers to the soil that forms the very base of farming?
