That’s why I was looking forward to visiting Scottish based ‘Wee Camper Co’ at their Carluke workshop near Glasgow. I had first noticed them at Volksfling last year and learned they had only been offering bespoke conversions for a year, so I was intrigued to find out more.
Arriving at the workshop I was met by owner/designer Danny Kelly who showed me around and introduced me to Ross McCabe, who is responsible for the actual builds. They had new T5 and T6 conversions in progress, so I took pictures while we talked, and Danny filled me in on some background. Coming from the music business he had begun by converting and renting ‘splitters’, VW Sprinter Vans split into seating and load-space compartments. These are designed as tour buses for bands and this side of the business is still thriving with one of the fleet currently in use by a band supporting Rod Stewart.
