A superb variety of rare, unusual and downright cool metal was on display at Gaydon’s Retro Show!

The British Motor Museum at Gaydon in Warwickshire hosted the ninth edition of the Retro Truck Show in September. We fired up the Foden for the drive south and it was well worth the effort! Loads of cool trucks, a brilliant atmosphere and decent weather too.

After the success of our Convoy in the Park video, we decided to produce another one here. We took so many pictures it was difficult to make a final selection for this feature; you can see a full gallery of images from the show online at truckanddriver. co.uk while the video is available both via our Facebook page and YouTube.

Organiser Lee Herbert was delighted with the turnout and planning for the 2020 show is well underway. This is going to be a big one as it’s the tenth anniversary. We’re looking forward to it!

John Thompson’s 141

A seriously rare truck with an interesting history. Nine of these 8x4 Scanias were sent in kit form to New Zealand, but it quickly transpired they were too heavy for purpose. Tipping the scales at 12 tonnes, an equivalent Kenworth was a full three tonnes lighter. John is a real 141 aficionado (he owns five!) and says this is the only one left. “I knew about these trucks when they were new. They created quite a bit of controversy!” The 1980-reg truck worked until 2013 and John persisted in asking the previous owner to sell it for 11 years. It used to pull demountable livestock floats or timber.
