The Corvette was huge in size and engine power and even in those days, it had power steering, electric windows, auto transmission, air conditioning, central locking, and even a power antenna. It was a sports car that was luxurious but at the same time had the performance of no other car he knew when he was growing up in Europe.
Thomas made himself a promise that he would do his best to put money aside every month. He started several small jobs after school – delivering newspapers, mowing lawns and he even had a small business which fixed bicycle wheel punctures. His determination to own this car cannot be faulted! Time went by and Thomas wondered whether he would actually get to own his dream car. Many years went by before the car was finally within his reach. He followed the Corvettes that were for sale for years and then one day, a miracle happened. A car came up for sale in Berea Durban North – a Corvette C3. Thomas arranged a test drive with the seller and cruised around with his son. He could see that there were a lot of small things that needed some attention but he decided that this was the car he wanted to own and therefore these small things would not stand in his way. Negotiations went back and forth until a price was agreed upon. Finally, the car he had always wanted to own was his.
