When Bob Wellstead went looking for an original ’32 Ford, he didn’t expect two to come along at once…

Some people have been around the UK rodding scene for what seems like ever, and always seem to have been at the top of their game. Some have become almost household names in our little community, others have kept a lower profile, happy to just consistently turn out top drawer hot rods. In my mind, Bob Wellstead falls into the latter category. The last time we spent a day with Bob was when we shot his magnificent ’36 roadster for the cover in – believe it or not – August 2011. Back then, Bob was in his ’36 period, having recently finished a 3-window coupe, his roadster and a pick-up, all from the same year of Ford production. As well as those, he’s built  a Model A roadster pick-up, ’37 Ford slant back and a ’40 Ford pick-up along the way. A varied mix for sure, but the one thing all Bob’s cars have had in common is shiny paint and show car detailing. Until now.

In the feature on his ’36 roadster, we mentioned the ’36 coupe had been sold, and both the roadster and the truck went some time after, continuing Bob’s theme of build it, drive it, sell it, move on to the next one.

Those who know him will be fully aware that Russ Duce is well and truly stuck in the ’70s – and why not? Russ has been part of our scene since that decade and, for the last six years, has been a regular sight at shows up and down the country driving Silhouette, the ’67 Camaro built by Mick Cooke, which burst into the show car scene over 40 years ago.
