The Alfa Romeo 6C-2500 was introduced in 1939, and continued in production in small quantities throughout WW2.
In 1949, successful pre-war racer – in both cars and boats – Guido Cattaneo approached Gilco, which built chassis for Alfa Romeo, Ferrari and Maserati, with plans for a highspeed touring car. He worked with Touring on styling the new car, but eventually decided to turn to another top racer, Count Johnny Lurani, to design the body. In the end, the chassis was by Gilco and the running gear from a 6C-2500, with the coachwork by Carrozzeria Riva from the Lake Como region.
