With the electrified van sector set to hot up over the next few months, Ford has stolen a march on light commercial rivals with the launch of the plug-in hybrid Transit. An all-electric Volkswagen Transporter is now on sale, and zero-emission rivals from the PSA Group are imminent, but the Transit Custom PHEV beat them all to market, Ford believing that the plug-in powertrain would allow for less compromise. The Transit PHEV’s all-electric range may not be as large as the competition, but its overall operating distance of 343 miles is, and is ideal for longer trips.
