Technology is propelling the built environment into the future, and the bathroom is no different.
The bathroom is getting kitted out in all sorts of technological advancements to make the privy experience as fuss-free and hygienic as possible. Concurrently, they are also transforming the space into one where users can go to relax and rejuvenate, evolving it from beyond its purely functional role.
All the developments throughout the year culminate into International Sanitary and Heating (ISH), the world’s leading trade fair that focuses on heating, ventilation, air-conditioning and water. This is where international companies showcase their product innovations and world-firsts from those sectors – including bathrooms.
With the latest edition of ISH just behind us, we look at the most recent developments from leaders in bathroom and sanitaryware fittings and how they are leveraging technology to shape the future of the water closet.
The WASHLET series from TOTO makes descaling simple and removes the need for professional cleaning services. The use of its patented CeFiONtect, a glaze that prevents debris from sticking to surfaces despite ceramic’s porosity, results in a perfectly smooth surface that will keep the bowl in pristine condition.
Duravit offers its HygieneGlaze 2.0 technology, which was baked into the seats during firing. The brand guarantees 99.999 percent of bacteria will be removed in a relatively short time to match its high standards.
To prevent the accumulation of dirt and hard water stains, INAX has an Aqua Ceramic technology for all their ceramic amenities, allowing them to be repelled and easily removed. It also prevents the formation of limescale and brown-ring stains.
USE OF APPS
With the increase in the number of water-resistant gadgets, the bathroom is increasingly welcoming them. For Duravit’s SensoWash Starck f Plus and Lite shower-toilets, the associated SensoWash app is able to configure the system straight from the phone individually, so the settings for each outfit would be saved. Flush and odour extraction can also be controlled via the app if the associated wall-mounted element is matched by the A2 electronic actuator plate.
