30 MINS
Photographing bubbles is a fun way to get creative with your camera. But rather than shooting outside, where we’d have to contend with wind, harsh sunlight, and distracting backgrounds, we’re going to use a simple home setup and a fast lens to capture some inspirational images.
We’ll use a shallow depth of field and create bubbles at varying distances from the camera so that some look pin-sharp while others are blurred. We’re using a black paper background set up over a table so the bubbles will stand out, and we’re keeping things simple by just using window light to one side to light the bubbles – this way you get a nice reflection from the window in both sides of the bubbles. We’ve also placed a reflector on the tabletop to bounce some light underneath the bubbles; this also makes it easier to clean up, as we can simply wipe the bubble mixture residue off the reflector when we’re finished.
