In America the Deere is king! The bright green and yellow is unmistakable, as is the picture of the leaping deer. These two colours and a logo that has represented the brand for 155 years can mean only one thing — John Deere.
It became the largest agricultural machine company in the world towards the end of the last century, has factories all over the globe in 104 locations, and it employs in excess of 74,000 people. And although it has lately come in for some flack for not allowing operatives to perform their own maintenance, it is a company with a great history.
Across the UK, you will find that many farms will stick to one brand of tractor, and in the UK John Deere has plenty of enthusiasts. Known for reliability, but also for not having the smallest price tag, there is a certain amount of prestige attached to owning and driving one.
Julian Hill, who lives in Worcestershire, notes that back in the 1960s, the farm in Defford where he worked was looking at getting a new tractor.
