Marilyn received AP’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2019, and a major retrospective, Marilyn Stafford: A Life in Photography, was published by Bluecoat Press in 2021.
Marilyn Stafford’s career in photography got off to a remarkable start when she was invited, as a young woman, to take stills of Albert Einstein. These images were well received, even though she’d never used a 35mm film camera before. In 1948 she moved to Paris and befriended such luminaries as Robert Capa, who suggested she become a war photographer (a suggestion that didn’t appeal), and Henri Cartier-Bresson.
