Labour: Insult to soldiers on benefits
THE Defence Secretary has said “hard work must pay” – despite thousands of troops and veterans relying on Universal Credit to survive.
Grant Shapps made the statement while backing Tory plans to clamp down on benefits spending, saying it sums up “the core of our Conservative values”.
But figures show at least 4,000 military personnel and 58,000 veterans are claiming UC – and it is thought the numbers may actually be higher.
