CLW Churns Out 700 Locomotives in Last Fiscal, Sets New Record

Chittaranjan Locomotive Works (CLW), the captive electric locomotive manufacturer of Indian railways, has created a history by setting a new record by producing 700 electric locomotives in the last fiscal, which also combines with the two other historic moments—75th year of its own production and also the 100th year of electric traction of Indian railways—thus making three different milestones this year.

From railway ministry to railway board and CLW collective, all are ecstatic with this massive production, which is an all-time record, from its Chittaranjan and Dankuni units in a fiscal year, surpassing its previous record of 580 electric locomotives manufactured in 2023-24 (in Chittaranjan — 479 and in ELAAU Dankuni — 101).

On 30 March 2025, the 700th electric locomotive was flagged off by Vijay Kumar, general manager (GM) of CLW in presence of all the top officials. As part of its celebrations sweets have been distributed to its staff and special awards were also handed over. During the day, the GM has appreciated the efforts of staff and officers at the CLW’s main unit and its Dankuni ancillary unit.
