THE Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) has initiated inquiry into allegations that over 700 candidates from a particular coaching centre passed the examination for surveyors/draughtsmen from a particular examination centre in Karaikudi and the claim by a coaching centre in Tenkasi that around 2,000 people who got coaching from their centre cleared the examinations for Group-VI jobs.

The issue was also was raised in the Assembly by Leader of the Opposition Edappadi K Palaniswami and members of CPM, CPI, PMK and Tamizhaga Vazhvurimai Katchi on Monday.

Giving a detailed reply, finance minister Palanivel Thiaga Rajan said he has sought a detailed report from the TNPSC member-secretary regarding the frequency of candidates passing from the same examination centre. Besides, he has also sought details of the number of candidates who took examinations in each centre and district-wise numbers. Rajan said he would give an explanation to the House after receiving the report.

The minister said the information being spread in the public domain and the details furnished by the TNPSC are poles apart. There were only eight examination centres in Tenkasi district for Group-IV posts. Out of the first 500 rank holders, 27 were from these eight centres. Similarly, among the first 1,000 and 10,000 rank holders, 45 and 397 were from these centres respectively.
