Prevent Sewage Flow Into Nandini River, Says Rao

District in-charge minister Dinesh Gundu Rao on Wednesday inspected the Nandini river at Khandige near Surathkal in view of complaints of sewage being let into it.

People of Khandige and nearby areas told Rao that sewage and other waste from a nearby medical college has been flowing into the river for many years. They also complained that sewage is being discharged directly into the river from the wet well at Surathkal.

Local MLA Umanath Kotian told the minister that people of Khandige and Surathkal have also been facing health issues because of contaminated water in the river. Though the issue has been brought to the notice of officials many times, no steps have been taken to prevent sewage from entering the river, he said.
