Covid test not must to carry out organ transplant, health ministry tells states

THE Union Health Ministry has said that Covid-19 testing will no longer be mandatory for asymptomatic donors and recipients in organ transplants, except for lung transplants.
The move is aimed at improving India’s organ donation rate, which remains low. Officials said organs of donors without symptoms were being discarded earlier because of positive Covid-19 reports, leading to the loss of organs that could have saved many lives.
