TMC won’t allow anyone to touch Waqf properties: Didi
December 04, 2025
|The Morning Standard
WEST Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday said the BJP, not her party TMC, introduced the contentious Waqf Amendment Act and asserted that her government will not allow anyone to touch properties.
“We won't follow the Act and have opposed it in the assembly. The state government has filed a case in the Supreme Court. The case is still on and I won’t allow anybody to touch the waaf properties,” Banerjee said while addressing a party rally at Gazole in Malda district, a minority-dominated belt.
In an apparent attempt to retain the Muslim vote bank for the TMC ahead of the assembly polls due next year, Banerjee’s statement came four days after her government directed district magistrates (DMs) across the state to upload details of Wagf properties on the Centre’s UMEED portal.
