IN a significant order, the Supreme Court on Thursday directed the implementation of minimum 1/3rd women's reservation in the posts of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA). While talking to this newspaper, SCBA president Adish Aggarwala hailed the top court's order and called it a welcome step. "This order is a landmark order of the Supreme Court. We wholeheartedly support and welcome it. It is a historical one for the women, who practice law and needs to be praised for their work. It's a victory for them," he said.
For this year, three executive members, two senior executive members and the treasurer of the SCBA are to be women, the apex court said in its order.
The Supreme Court reserves the post of SCBA Treasurer for woman for the ensuing elections for 2024-2025 term.
