Call to pull down 'illegal' flags from lampposts

A RESIDENT has called on his council to remove Union flags festooning lampposts in his town - and elsewhere in the borough if they have been put there illegally.

Paul Hanson said there were around 50 flags tracing a route through Elland and their placing there was illegal and also against council policy, he told senior Calderdale councillors.

Responding, Cabinet members heard that where there were any safety issues they would be removed quickly, ones considered less dangerous would be removed as part of a regular programme of works.

Mr Hanson said he was Calderdale born and bred and has lived here for 70 years.

"My question is about the number of Union Jacks that are displayed on council property.
