PLYMOUTH MP Luke Pollard has told the owner of Union Street's dilapidated Palace Theatre to either renovate the Victorian building or sell it to someone who will. The Labour MP said that even though the building is in private hands it is of vital importance for the city and the people who live here.
Earlier this year Mr Pollard put the Grade II listed pile on a list of buildings he fears are at risk. Now he is telling its owner, Manoucehr Bahmanzadeh, that if he doesn't intend to repair and renovate the edifice he should sell it or hand it over to someone who will as an act of "civic generosity".
Mr Pollard also wants Mr Bahmanzadeh to consider doing the same to the three other buildings he owns which are in a state of disrepair: the Great Western Hotel and former Phoenix public house, either side of the Palace, and the Cooperage at Bretonside. He said: "That owner could do something really special for the city and pass that asset on to someone who can do something with it."
