As the Admiral of the Fleet, and a former serving Naval Commander, as well as the Duke of Cornwall, he has always had strong links with the Westcountry and Plymouth itself.
He joined the Armed Forces in 1971 and was awarded his RAF wings a few months later. He went on to join the Royal Naval College, Dartmouth, and served on a number of ships.
