School attacked in Nigeria's third mass abduction in a week

Unknown gunmen abducted an unidentified number of pupils from a Catholic school in central Nigeria yesterday, the third mass abduction in the country in a week.
The latest kidnapping, in Papiri community in Niger state, came against the backdrop of Donald Trump making threats to intervene militarily to end a “Christian genocide”, which the Nigerian government has denied is happening.
“The Niger state government has received with deep sadness the disturbing news of the kidnapping of pupils from St Mary’s school in Agwara local government area,” Abubakar Usman, the state government secretary, said.
Dauda Chekula, 62, said that four of his grandchildren, ranging in age from seven to 10, were among the schoolchildren abducted.
“We have not heard anything since this morning,” Chekula told the Associated Press. “The only information we are getting is that the attackers are still moving with the remaining children into the bush.”
