The relatively low voter turnout in Baramati has heightened the suspense over the outcome of the battle of the sisters-in-law Supriya Sule and Sunetra Pawar.
Only 47.84 per cent voting was reported from this seat, where NCP-SP head honcho Sharad Pawar and his nephew Ajit Pawar, leader of the breakaway faction of the NCP, have fought a proxy war.
Ajit Pawar had fielded his wife Sunetra, a political novice, against his cousin and sitting MP Supriya Sule, daughter of Sharad Pawar. Despite the bitter battle, disappointingly, few voters turned out. Both the Pawars had left no stone unturned to mobilise their supporters, but not with much success, it appears.
