PRITAM MUNDE BATS FOR WRESTLERS
The Free Press Journal|June 02, 2023
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from Beed Pritam Munde has lent support to the wrestlers’ agitation saying that “women’s complains should be immediately considered”. She is the first BJP MP to openly support the wrestlers who have alleged sexual harassment by Wrestling Federation of India chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.

“Whenever a woman makes a complaint as serious as this, it should be taken into consideration. The authorities concerned should thoroughly investigate the matter,” Pritam told the media at Beed late on Wednesday.

“I agree that any action should only be taken after investigation. But what is important is that you cannot overlook the complaints. If some women wrestlers are raising a serious issue, it should be immediately considered,” she said.

It is not good for democracy if the complaints are not being attended to, the MP said. “As a woman, I feel that the government should look into the complaints,” she said.

Pritam first became an MP after the death of her father, senior BJP leader Gopinath Munde, in 2014. This is her second term as an MP.
