Prioritising multilateral engagement in Indian Ocean Region: Navy Chief

Indian Navy Chief Admiral Hari Kumar asserted that the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) should not be considered in isolation but rather as an integral part of the wider global maritime space. He made this statement during the 4th Goa Maritime Conclave, highlighting the unifying nature of oceans, as also emphasized by the Defence Minister in his Keynote Address.

Admiral Hari Kumar further suggested the need to rationalize and prioritize efforts in the IOR, emphasizing the importance of various bilateral, minilateral, and multilateral frameworks such as the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium, Indian Ocean Rim Association, and Colombo Security Conclave.

The Navy chief further recalled the important steps taken in the previous maritime conclaves.
