Coach Broos may be offside!

It is an open secret that coach Hugo Broos will always be remembered as one of the best coaches we've ever had in charge of Bafana Bafana.

- Cheers, VeeJay

Long after his retirement post the next FIFA World Cup, the Belgian mentor's name will remain part of the conversation almost in the same way as that of the late coach Clive Barker. However, another thing that he will be remembered for is dividing opinion almost every time he addresses questions from the media. You're almost guaranteed some quotable quotes whenever the 73-year-old speaks, whether you agree with him or not, one thing is for sure there will be a reaction!

As a senior national team coach, the former international defender is like a father-figure not just to the players but to junior national team and club coaches at professional football level as well. The country's football identity and development rests partly on the senior national team coach's influence, which makes his relationship with all the other coaches even more important. That is why he must be on every coach's speed dial to share ideas and discuss our football and players, always. At the end of the day, coach Broos' success and failure depend on the club coaches who spend more time with his players than the few days that he has with them in camp. There are discussions that coach Broos continues to have with the players, like any coach, because at the end of the day a head coach is a father figure and is therefore expected to guide and advise the players, the technical team members and even the supporting staff around him.

Adams faces race against time

Jayden Adams' international future hangs in the balance, and the countdown has officially begun. With just one month remaining before Hugo Broos finalises his squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations, the 24-year-old midfielder finds himself in a position few would have predicted two years ago. Once a rising star of Stellenbosch FC and a standout performer at the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast, Adams now faces the harsh reality of reduced game time at Mamelodi Sundowns and uncertainty around his Bafana Bafana role. The player who earned his way into Broos' plans through hard work and consistency has slipped into unfamiliar territory at club level, and his national team prospects have dimmed as a result. The Siya crew has been tracking his situation closely, uncovering worrying signs behind the scenes as Adams fights to keep his AFCON dream alive.
