Angel investments and venture capital funding in homegrown startups rebounded in May comA pared to the preceding month as dealmaking gathered pace.
However, deal volume stayed at a record low in May though it made a strong recovery sequentially.
Typically, May sees more than 100 deals, except in 2020 because of the disruptions caused by the pandemic.
Even when compared to the pandemic period, the volume of deals in May this year was lower than that of May 2020.
A total of 77 deals were inked last month with a cumulative investment value of $826 million compared to 58 deals in April valued at $381 million, according to VCC Edge, the data intelligence platform of VCCircle.
Last month saw big ticket deals such as Walmart Inc.-owned digital payments firm PhonePe raising another $100 million from global private equity firm General Atlantic as part of its ongoing $1 billion fundraising.
