Rayner in call for action on scandal of infected blood

ANGELA Rayner has paid tribute to victims and campaigners affected by the infected blood scandal as an inquiry's revelations have been published.

The Ashton-under-Lyne MP said the 'appalling injustice' had left victims 'denied justice' for decades and called on public bodies to 'act' on giving victims recognition and compensation.

It comes as a damning report found the biggest treatment disaster the NHS has ever seen was hidden by a "chilling" and "pervasive" cover-up at the highest levels of government.

More than 30,000 people were 'knowingly' infected with HIV and hepatitis C from 1970 to 1991, the report published yesterday concluded.
