Last weekend was the first time I’d managed to get into my garden to start clearing some of last year’s old vegetation, ready for the new growth that is beginning to appear.
Uncovering those fresh green shoots filled me with hope for the future - even if the ground was still extremely soggy and I ended up covered in mud.
I always leave last year’s growth over winter as it makes amazing homes for insects and other invertebrates during the cold season.
Last autumn I had to remove a portion of old privet hedge to make way for some building work.
