Police pursuit car flips onto roof and narrowly misses family

- CHRIS SLATER

It could easily have killed us

A MAN says his brother is lucky to be alive after an Audi being chased by police crashed into the side of their house and landed on its roof in their garden.

Eyewitnesses said the car, which was being pursued by officers after allegedly failing to stop, ploughed into a tree before flying through the air and hitting the gable wall of the property on Union Road, Ashton-under-Lyne, where Thomas Ashley, 22, lives with his two siblings, mum and step-dad.

Mr Ashley says he had got up to make a drink shortly before the smash however his 19-year-old brother who remained in the garden was struck and initially pinned under the car, which overturned and came to rest upside down.

He managed to free himself within seconds and get to safety.

He was taken to hospital but has thankfully not been seriously hurt.
