Assembly in referendum call to try & save nature

IRELAND should change the constitution to ensure our natural paradise is maintained for future generations, it has been claimed.

The world’s first Citizens’ Assembly on Biodiversity Loss has recommended a referendum be held to force the State to respect the environment.

And 83% of those taking part voted for the move after 99 people selected from an initial 2,400 expressions of interest.

Following a seventh weekend of discussion, the citizens agreed “the State has comprehensively failed to adequately fund, implement and enforce existing national legislation, national policies, EU biodiversity-related laws and directives related to biodiversity”.
