Cops storm Imran's house to arrest him, not able to find him

In a day of dramatic developments in Pakistan, police stormed ousted prime minister Imran Khan's residence in Lahore to arrest him, only to meet stiff resistance from hundreds of Khan's supporters gathered outside and unable to "find" the leader at home.

Police then served arrest warrants to ensure Khan's appearance in court on charges of misusing his office to sell state gifts, authorities said, after the raid proved unsuccessful. A team of Islamabad police reached the Lahore residence of the cricketer-turned-politician to arrest him in the Toshakhana case - where he is accused of not disclosing information on expensive gifts but returned empty-handed, except with an assurance from his legal team that he will appear in court on March 7. If he fails to do so, police will be required to arrest him and present him to court, interior minister Rana Sanaullah said.

The Prime Minister's special assistant on interior Attaullah Tarar told reporters that the Islamabad police went to Khan's residence to deliver a notice to him to appear before the court.

"Today Imran Khan locked himself in a room in Zaman Park. Khan's chief of staff Shibli Faraz said he wasn't at home when the Islamabad police came to deliver a court's notice. But Khan later appeared from his house addressing the party workers," Tarar said.
